The third exhibition in the ‘Turnaround – 11 Exhibitions in 12 Weeks’ series is ‘Turnaround 3’ and it promises to be very exciting. Helen Porter has invited the following guest artists:  Rachel I'Anson, Anna Alcock, Maureen Morris, Michael Stanger, Spike Gasgoine, and Kate Hardy. These professional artists from Walthamstow will be exhibiting printmaking, photography and painting in the quirky all-window shop in Wood Street Indoor Market that the Waltham Forest Arts Club are using to put on the series.  Artist printmaking is a fascinating art form that shows the time and care that goes into the prints. The photographer, Rachel I’Anson makes use of pinhole cameras and other unconventional methods.

Because the series is putting on 11 exhibitions in 12 weeks each exhibition lasts only one week. ‘Turnaround 3’ is from February 25th - March 2nd. Opening Hours each week are the same- window viewing: Mon. & Tue. 10:00-5:00, door open: Sat. 1:00-5:00 & Wed., Thurs., Fri. 10:00-5:00, late evening party on Thursday 6:00-8:00. The artists will all be on hand for the late opening party on Thursday night March 1st and will be happy to have a chat about the work with visitors.  So come along and talk to the artists!

 Maureen Morris

Printmaker and poet.

"I like working with relief prints because I can print by hand and don't have to use a press - though I do use one sometimes!

I enjoy wood and letting the tools release the image - in the big cacti piece it was fun to involve the grain and the knots in the plank.
I often work directly onto the material, even when I'm making wood engravings - it keeps the image spontaneous.
The big cacti piece takes about half an hour to ink up and it can take another hour to bring the image through using a baren - it's a very meditative process.
I'm fascinated by cacti plants and have done the very small wood engraving of a group of cacti too , which was in the 1st turnaround."

Rachel I'Anson

Rachel is a London based photographic artist and tutor specialising in combining early darkroom processes with digital technologies. Still an avid film user, she loves both the control and unexpectedness chemical processes allow.

After graduating from West Surrey College of Art and Design in 1996, Rachel moved to Walthamstow East London and in 2008 opened Rachel’s Darkroom; where she runs B&W photographic darkroom courses.

Rachel has exhibited her work internationally, and loves all aspects of photography! Currently she is exploring Victorian processes and making pinhole cameras.
